Forward Deployed Engineer

Location: Los Angeles (Preferred), New York, Seattle, Austin

Compensation: Up to $225,000 Base + Equity + Comprehensive Benefits

We're working with one of the most exciting engineering startups in the US as they continue to build out their Forward Deployed Engineering team.

This isn't a traditional software engineering role.

It's designed for engineers who enjoy solving complex technical problems alongside customers, influencing product direction, and shipping production code that has an immediate impact.

If you're looking for ownership, variety and the opportunity to bridge engineering, product and customer success, this is one of the strongest opportunities currently available.

The Role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll own customer outcomes from initial deployment through long-term success.

You'll spend time working directly with engineering teams, understanding their technical challenges, identifying opportunities, and building production-ready solutions that solve real problems.

Many of the solutions you build will evolve into core product functionality used across the entire customer base.

You'll operate at the intersection of software engineering, product management and customer engagement, giving you significantly more ownership than a traditional engineering role.

Travel is an important part of the position, typically around 25 to 30% of your time, with occasional periods closer to 50%. Most travel consists of short customer visits lasting a few days.

What You'll Be Working With

The team hires exceptional engineers first and is largely language agnostic.

Their technology stack includes modern backend and frontend technologies, with opportunities to work across the full stack depending on customer requirements.

Engineers who enjoy working across multiple parts of a system tend to thrive in this environment.

What They're Looking For

You'll likely have:

  • A few years of professional software engineering experience

  • Experience shipping and owning production software

  • Strong coding fundamentals

  • Experience building products in fast-moving environments

  • Confidence working directly with customers and cross-functional teams

  • A passion for solving ambiguous engineering problems

  • A desire to influence both product and technical direction

The strongest candidates are able to clearly explain:

  • What they personally built

  • Why they built it

  • The impact it delivered

  • The technical decisions they made

  • How user or customer feedback influenced their work

What Makes This Different?

Most software engineering roles ask you to build features.

This role asks you to solve customer problems.

You'll work directly with users, influence the product roadmap, and own projects from the first customer conversation through to production deployment.

It's an opportunity to combine software engineering, product thinking and customer interaction without moving away from hands-on engineering.

Interview Process

The process consists of:

  • Recruiter conversation

  • Technical coding interview

  • Half-day onsite including:

    • Product demonstration

    • Coding interview

    • System design interview

    • Debugging and pair programming session

    • Behavioural and customer-focused interview

    • Hiring Manager discussion

  • Final Founder conversation

Compensation & Benefits

  • Up to $225,000 base salary

  • Equity

  • Comprehensive benefits package

  • Sign-on bonus available where appropriate

If you're an engineer who enjoys building production software, working directly with customers and wants to own problems from start to finish, I'd be happy to tell you more.

Chicago, Illinois, United States

Data Engineer / Software Engineer

Location: Chicago, IL (hybrid, 3 days/week onsite)

Compensation: $130,000 - $170,000 base + 15% target bonus

Travel: 10-20%

The Opportunity

Join a fast moving, family owned company with under $200M in revenue where your work directly shapes how the business runs. This is a rare seat with real access, you'll work alongside a lean 5 person IT team and have visibility straight up to the C-suite. No layers of bureaucracy, no waiting months to see your work matter.

The company is in the middle of a modern data transformation, standing up a cloud data warehouse on Azure Synapse to consolidate data across the business and build out real data governance and organization from the ground up. You'll be a foundational voice in how that gets built.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build a data warehouse on Azure Synapse, consolidating data from across the business into a single, trusted source
  • Establish data governance and organizational standards as part of the warehouse build
  • Develop and maintain applications in an ASP.NET environment with a SQL Server backend
  • Work as a hybrid data engineer/software engineer, comfortable moving between pipeline work and application development
  • Use AI tools to accelerate and improve your own development workflow (this is a role that develops with AI, not one focused on building AI products)
  • Operate in a Microsoft first environment, with flexibility to bring in other tools where they make sense

What We're Looking For

  • 5-7 years of experience spanning data engineering and software engineering
  • Hands on experience with Azure, ideally including Synapse or similar data warehousing tools
  • Experience with ASP.NET and SQL Server
  • Comfort working in a small, collaborative IT team with direct exposure to business leadership
  • No visa sponsorship or relocation assistance available for this role

Why This One's Different

This isn't a role where you disappear into a ticket queue. It's a small, tight knit team at a company that's been around, moves fast, and treats its people well. You'll have real ownership, real impact, and a direct line to the people making decisions.

Corporate Functions Data Steward
New York, United States

Corporate Functions Data Steward

The organization's data operating model consists of enterprise-wide groups and federated data domains designed to drive accountability and effective management of data. This federated model minimizes overlap and reduces handoffs of data attributes throughout the data lifecycle.

Federated data domains are organized around the different types of data created and consumed across the enterprise (transactional, derived, and master/reference), ensuring there are no overlapping or unclaimed data elements between domains. This structure supports the organization's business activities while establishing clear ownership and accountability for data quality from origination through consumption.

The Corporate Functions Data Domain is responsible for data related to IT, People, and Legal functions.

Core responsibilities of the Data Domain include defining and owning business use cases, managing data across the domain, ensuring data meets consumer needs, overseeing data quality assessments and remediation, maintaining data models and business definitions, and participating in enterprise data governance initiatives.

Corporate Functions Data Steward

As the Corporate Functions Data Steward, you will serve as the strategic leader and subject matter expert for the Corporate Functions Data Domain, encompassing IT, People, and Legal functions. This role requires operating as a domain leader rather than a coordinator.

You will oversee the enterprise systems supporting IT, People (including permanent employees, contingent workers, and affiliates), and Legal processes, ensuring data is accurate, accessible, and aligned with enterprise standards.

A key aspect of the role is understanding how Corporate Functions data is created, maintained, and consumed across the organization to develop the vision and strategy for key platforms supporting these functions, including HR systems, procurement platforms, IT service management tools, and legal systems. You will partner closely with business stakeholders to understand data requirements, usage, and challenges while collaborating with technology teams to define, prioritize, and refine requirements that deliver the greatest business value.

This role also provides leadership for a team of Data Stewards and Data Quality Analysts supporting the Corporate Functions Data Domain.

Responsibilities

Data Strategy & Governance

  • Translate enterprise strategy into actionable data management plans for the Corporate Functions Data Domain (IT, People, and Legal).
  • Lead new data initiatives by developing business cases, gathering requirements, and prioritizing projects.
  • Establish and maintain processes aligned with enterprise data policies and standards.
  • Oversee data access and provisioning, ensuring appropriate controls, regulatory compliance, and adherence to Data Service Agreements.
  • Ensure Corporate Functions data is governed in accordance with enterprise policies and internal controls.

Data Architecture

  • Define and maintain enterprise "golden sources" and systems of record for Corporate Functions data, including HR, procurement, IT service management, and legal platforms.

Data Dictionary & Metadata

  • Partner with stakeholders to define, validate, and maintain business definitions for data elements.
  • Own data lineage and technical metadata across the Corporate Functions domain.
  • Identify and manage metadata changes impacting workforce, IT operational, procurement, or legal data.

Data Quality

  • Partner with stakeholders to establish and manage data quality controls that meet business requirements.
  • Oversee remediation of data quality issues by prioritizing initiatives, reviewing remediation plans, and ensuring sustainable resolution.

Desired Experience

  • Deep understanding of IT, HR/People, Procurement, and/or Legal data and supporting systems.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality, metadata management, and enterprise data principles.
  • Ability to translate business needs into scalable data solutions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and managing competing priorities.
  • Familiarity with regulatory, workforce, security, and legal requirements within the financial services industry.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of leadership experience at the Director or Executive Director level.
  • 3+ years of experience in Data Management and Data Quality.
