Data Protection Lawyer

Financial Services

£100,000 + Bonus

London- Hybrid

Opportunity to join rapidly growing international financial services organisation, as data privacy lawyer carrying out legal and regulatory work to support current and future business initiatives. Sitting in the legal team but having daily interactions with the compliance team, as well as lawyers based around the world

Responsibilities Include

  • Advising on data protection matters, including regulatory compliance, privacy impact assessments, GDPR compliance programmes and international data flows.
  • Assisting with data protection in a contractual/transactional context, reviewing, drafting and negotiating data protection terms in vendor agreements for example, complex international transfers of data both intra-group and between third parties and data sharing agreements.
  • Answering regulatory enquiries from and data breach reporting to EU data protection authorities including the ICO, DPC and NAIH.
  • Researching and interpreting existing and forthcoming data protection laws and regulations in the UK and the EU.
  • Drafting of written instructions for programmers and technology staff to respond to new regulations or the launch of new business lines.
  • Responding to queries and complaints from clients.
  • Responding to data protection audits.
  • Reviewing vendor relationships - advising on due diligence, reviewing agreements and entering into data sharing agreements where required.
  • Reviewing and providing information where IB is the vendor processing personal data.
  • Advising internal teams on data protection including data protection impact assessments.
  • Making amendments to customer facing documentation.
  • Drafting and maintaining policies and procedures.
  • Reviewing and advising on staff training.
  • Maintaining the breach, DSAR, erasure and vendor relationship logs.
  • Dealing with the payment of data protection


  • 4-6 years' PQE ( law firm or In-house)
  • Previous hands-on experience of advising on data protection projects, including experience of advising on GDPR/UK GDPR on international data transfers, drafting privacy notices, negotiating, and drafting data processor agreements and advising on marketing and e-Privacy issues.
  • Demonstrate exceptional technical knowledge and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional team skills and a can-do attitude.
  • Proficiency in European languages in addition to English is desirable.
