IT Engineer/IT Technical Consultant (MUST HAVE ACTIVE SC CLEARANCE)

Job Description:
This role will largely be based at client sites in London and the occasional trip to Newbury. The role is for developing and building Enterprise IT systems, including:
-requirements clarification;
-design;
-development;
-implementation - build and configuration - the key aspect of the role;
-testing;
-enhancing and maintaining;
-transfer to operations and migration support.

The focus will be on implementing systems from an existing design. The platform(s) will primarily be a virtualised MS Windows based environment. A good working knowledge of Linux/Unix server configuration is also required.

The IT Engineer will be able to deal with all aspects of system development and implementation. Critical to the success of the service will be an ability to work thoroughly and diligently but also quickly as part of a combined client and supplier support team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
-Design of Enterprise IT systems: MS Windows and Unix/Linux servers; MS Windows clients; Vmware and/or Hyper-V virtualisation; Cisco networking; enterprise storage and backup, for a variety of compute/storage vendors.
-Development
-Working with development tools
-Working in development environments
-Infrastructure build and configuration
-Implementation of enhancements
-Test and acceptance - Testing and T&A technical support
-Working under change control
-Working under configuration management
-System roll-out
-Fault finding and resolution 1st/2nd/3rd line
-Review and reporting
-Produce technical documentation

Qualification and Experience Required:
-Linux/Unix (E)
-MS Windows (E)
-Cisco networking (D)
-Virtualisation - Vmware or Hyper-V (E)
-Automated build tools (D)
-Secure (public sector) systems experience - including security architectures (D)

Skills, Knowledge and Personal Attributes:
-System development (E)
-Production of design and build specifications (E)
-System implementation - Primarily MS Windows domain, but also a good working knowledge of Unix/Linux (E)
-Including installation and configuration of operating systems, AD and DNS
-Virtualisation
