Manager, Software Engineering
Enterprise Systems (eCommerce)
Downtown Chicago, IL

One of America's Top 10 eCommerce companies is looking to transform the way they do business for their customers. They are the 10th largest e-commerce player in North America, with over half of their revenue coming from online transactions. This position will sit on the Enterprise Systems team and will use technology to support the changing and dynamic world of supply-chain.
They currently carry 1.5 million products and have over 25,000 employees world-wide and delivering cutting-edge technical solutions to support the business is one of their biggest missions. The technology that this group delivers is used by many units of the business such as, call centers, branch network, sales, and digital channels. You will support over 1000 applications across the network and you will be operating in an agile environment, to provide quick solutions to complex problems.
The Technology team is currently just over 500 employees spanning across Infrastructure & Operations, Cyber Security, Technology Planning, Architecture and Engineering.

Tech Stack: JAVA, J2EE, Ruby on Rails, RDBS, NoSQL, Lucene, SOLR

Manage the day-to-day engineering approach and work the product for multiple teams
Assess necessary skill sets and platform knowledge to deliver engineering objectives.
Give recommendation for resourcing and training plans
Balance capacity against demands and focus on continued professional development opportunities for the team
Work with Product Management and Business Stakeholders to deliver software on collaborative timelines
Responsible for weighing new functionality and maintenance in order to sustain a healthy technical operation.
Communicate Engineering context to Product, Project and Portfolio Managers to support release planning activities and status reporting
Vet technical solutions proposed by team members, escalate questions to Engineering Leadership or Solutions Architecture as needed.
Perform code reviews for the most critical high impact changes
Coach and Mentor more junior team members

5-8 years of development experience
7+ years of Engineering experience
5+ years in an Agile environment
Bachelor's Degree (Master's is a bonus)
Experience in multiple IT disciplines
Strong communication and leadership capabilities
