Role: Tech Leader / Tech Manager

Duration: 3 -4 months initially

Note * The client is not looking for a Lead Developer or Principal Developer , this is a leadership position *

Job description

As a technical specialist with a wide range of experience, you'll provide advice on technology to help us deliver simple, safe and easy to use digital systems that meet user needs. You'll share technology best practice and explain cross government architecture patterns.

You'll communicate with and influence all levels of responsibility, including director level.

You may help us recruit these specialists and ensure that we're building our capability and capacity to continually deliver and run good digital service.

Key responsibilities

-Guide the ways in which the team works, working closely with a product manager and delivery manager

-Be involved in identifying appropriate technology and approaches, deciding when software should be written

-Provide technical leadership, coach and mentor your team·

-Build RESTful web services to serve a variety of citizen and government needs, taking responsibility for the quality of code you produce

-Implement toolkits and APIs for purposes such as integration, performance optimisation, security and scalability

-Build automated tests to support our continuous deployment environment

-Lead on security and privacy issues for your service (or services), working with the Technical Design Authority to mitigate risks

Essential skills/criteria

- Modern technology, particularly Ruby, Python, Node JS (ideally)

-Public Sector experience (preferable)

- References to TDD,BDD,RESTful APIs,

- Agile, SCRUM

- Should be a people person and a leader, someone who can persuade

- Should be interested in user research, not just a developer

- Really looking for someone with extensive background in development but interested in moving into a leadership role.
