VP of Engineering

OVERVIEW
I am currently working alongside a rapidly growing start-up who are looking for a Vice President (VP) to lead their software engineering and product delivery team. The practice you would be leading will be critical to ensuring the organisation deliver the best product and technologies to their customers and include development, architecture, agility, and test. Working transparently and collaboratively with multiple teams across the organisation, the VP of Engineering will report to the CTO and be one of the leaders of the Product and Technology organization.

As a VP, you will be responsible for an organization of multiple software engineering teams comprising 60-75 software engineers, architects, and quality engineers with a direct reporting team that will include engineering managers and directors. You will act as a partner to leaders in product, design, marketing, operations and finance to foster a collaborative environment and focus on delivering business value from your teams.

The VP will also focus on building, engaging, and growing the team through activities like recruiting, performance management, mentoring, talent development, team organization, and communication and reinforcement of the connection between the team's work and company objectives.

The VP will also be responsible for leading, accelerating, and managing positive change as the organisation scales, grows, and improve the technology platforms including but not limited to, cloud migration, CI/CD pipeline modernization, engineering productivity improvements and process automation


QUALIFICATIONS
You are excited to lead teams working on web scale systems
You have great technical savvy and intuition and coach your team to make good technical decisions while not allowing perfect to get in the way of good
You're a leader who cares about your team members and invests in their growth while coaching for impact as opposed to activity
You have a bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent
You have 8+ years experience in engineering leadership at the director level or higher
Extensive experience in organization design and workforce planning, budget planning, contract negotiations, and vendor management.
You are passionate about building and mentoring high performing engineering teams focusing on rewarding impact and outcomes
You have great communication and teamwork skills

RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspire, lead, and develop teams of software engineers who are building innovative solutions
Mentor directors and managers and guide them to achieve their career goals and positive impact
Align goals across the team so that engineer, product, and design are all working toward the same direction
Work in strong partnership with senior product leaders to define and drive execution of the product roadmap
Implement reliable and efficient processes to accelerate development and improve quality
Foster a culture of continuous improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics
