Head of AI Infrastructure
San Francisco, California, United States

Head of AI Infrastructure

United States

$250-350K + Bonus + Equity

Must be a citizen/authorized to work in the US/Canada

Remote with travel

About the company

Our client is a venture-backed energy technology company building a new kind of AI compute network. Instead of one large data center, they deploy liquid-cooled NVIDIA GPU inference pods across a nationwide network of existing sites, running on power that is already permitted and in place.

The pods are designed to be modular and quick to deploy. They avoid new utility permits, water hookups, backup generators and major construction. Each pod shares its site's electrical service with other energy infrastructure, so the platform balances power intelligently and fails over gracefully between sites.

The role

This is the company's first dedicated infrastructure hire, reporting directly to the CTO.

You'll start hands-on and own the AI platform end to end: compute, memory, network, storage, orchestration and field operations. As the fleet grows, you'll build and lead the infrastructure team. You'll also be the senior technical voice for customers and set the 12 to 18 month infrastructure roadmap.

The work moves fast. New NVIDIA drivers ship weekly, new vLLM versions every two weeks and new models monthly, so continuous benchmarking and safe rollouts are at the heart of the job.

What you'll do

  • Bring up, burn in and run GPU pods in production, and own the acceptance benchmarks every new pod and hardware generation must pass
  • Measure and improve inference performance across compute, memory, network and storage: tokens per second per kW, KV-cache offload, RoCEv2 and NCCL fabric performance, model cold-start
  • Test and roll out frequent driver, vLLM and model updates safely, with clear benchmarks and rollback plans
  • Run power-aware operations: GPU power caps, curtailment and workload drain coordinated with other on-site energy loads
  • Design for graceful failure, so work hands off cleanly between pods and sites
  • Operate a multi-tenant, bare-metal Kubernetes GPU platform against service level objectives, with 24/7 incident response
  • Write the runbooks field technicians follow at unmanned sites
  • Act as technical lead for customers, and set the 12 to 18 month infrastructure roadmap
  • Hire, build and lead the infrastructure team as the fleet scales

What you'll bring

  • 12+ years in infrastructure, with hands-on ownership of physical production compute at scale (not only consuming public cloud services)
  • Experience at a hyperscaler, GPU cloud or neocloud: you know how large organizations keep large systems running
  • Practical AI inference knowledge, such as vLLM or other model serving frameworks
  • Depth in at least two of: inference serving, InfiniBand or RoCE fabrics, distributed storage, bare-metal Kubernetes
  • Experience running distributed or multi-site infrastructure
  • Strong Linux skills, plus Python or Go: you read the code and write the fix
  • Technical leadership experience, and the ambition to build and manage a team

Nice to have

  • Edge or distributed-site infrastructure, such as CDN points of presence, cloud local zones or telecom edge
  • Experience with 1,000+ GPU clusters
  • Power-aware scheduling, demand response or GPU cluster power management
  • Background at a GPU, chip or infrastructure vendor, such as NVIDIA, AMD, Intel or Oracle

You don't need to check every box to be considered.

Location, compensation and how to apply

  • Location: fully remote, anywhere in the US or Canada
  • Travel: to pod sites and customers as needed, plus two company-wide gatherings a year
  • Work authorization: must already be authorized to work in the US or Canada; visa sponsorship is not available
  • Compensation: competitive base salary with significant equity
Senior Software Engineer (Remote Sensing)
Arlington, Virginia, United States

Senior Software Engineer (Remote Sensing) — Arlington, VA | $155k–$185k Base

If you've worked in remote sensing or satellite systems and want to own software that directly supports real-world operations, this is worth a look.

I'm working with a growing aerospace organization that's hiring multiple Senior Software Engineers to build the ground and backend software behind its remote sensing platform. This isn't a role where you'll own one small piece of a much larger system. They need engineers who understand how these systems work together and can jump in across the stack when needed.

You'll be working primarily in Python, building backend services and REST APIs supporting satellite operations, ground systems, mission scheduling, command and control, and communications.

There's a lot of autonomy here. You'll have the opportunity to own projects from initial design through production, make architectural decisions, work directly with operations, and help guide other engineers without having to move into a formal management role.

What you'll need:

  • Strong remote sensing experience — this is a must!!!
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Strong Python backend development
  • Experience building production REST APIs and backend services
  • Experience across satellite operations, ground systems, aerospace, mission software, or command-and-control systems
  • Exposure to scheduling systems, ideally satellite or mission scheduling
  • Experience working across a broader system rather than one isolated component
  • Proven ownership of projects from design and architecture through production
  • Strong system design and software architecture fundamentals
  • Ability to operate independently, make technical decisions, and mentor other engineers

They're particularly interested in engineers who understand the bigger operational picture. You don't need to have built every piece of a remote sensing system yourself, but you should have enough breadth to contribute at different points across the system and understand how your software impacts the mission.

Location: Arlington, VA, 5 days onsite. Relocation assistance may be available.

Compensation: $155k–$185k base DOE + benefits, with potential flexibility for an exceptional fit.

If you've built software behind remote sensing, satellites, ground systems, or mission-critical aerospace platforms and this sounds like your kind of challenge, apply or reach out to me directly!

Senior Product Engineer (Rust)
United States

I'm working with a well-funded, ~45-person fintech client building the infrastructure layer for private credit, an asset class that today runs almost entirely on spreadsheets, PDFs, and tribal knowledge. Every deal, every filing, every covenant lives in a different format, in a different system. My client is building the platform that turns that chaos into something the whole business can query, trust, and build decisions on top of.

They're hiring a Core Platform Lead to join the data platform team and report directly to the CTO. You'll sit hand in hand with their lead engineer as a true peer, not someone picking up tickets. The team's lean right now, and this hire fills the biggest gap they've got: nobody's built out data ingestion from scratch before.

What you'll be doing

  • Own the data ingestion and processing layer the rest of the business runs on, raw and messy through to clean and queryable
  • Make the real build-vs-buy calls: knowing when an off-the-shelf tool solves the problem and when it doesn't
  • Work at the core of systems where correctness and speed matter because of what's riding on the data
  • Handle the governance side too: data quality, lineage, access control, sensitive data handling
  • Help shape the platform's evolution as the company scales, not just keep the lights on
  • Have a real voice in engineering culture and process as the team grows

What they're looking for

  • Deep Rust experience, tradeoffs and fundamentals, not just syntax
  • Strong distributed systems and large-scale backend background
  • Ideally built ingestion pipelines or data infra from scratch before, or you're hungry to
  • Flexible on years, firm on ability. 3-4+ years with a steep trajectory is the sweet spot, more if the reasoning's there
  • Communicates clearly and concisely, can go deep without turning it into a lecture
  • Genuinely curious about the product, you don't need finance background walking in
  • A balanced take on AI in engineering, not a skeptic, not a zealot

Comp & Location
$200k-$250k. NYC hybrid if you're local (the CTO likes the team in person now and then), fully remote if you're not.
