Rust LA brings embedded systems and quantum computing into the same room

More than 50 engineers joined us for the latest Rust LA meetup, with an evening that moved from bare metal and async programming to quantum computing and biotech research.
For Rust LA Community Organizer Sean Urbain, it was the range of applications being discussed, as well as the turnout from the community, that stood out.
“In last week's Rust LA, we had a fantastic turnout of over 50 engineers in the room to learn about Rust within bare metal and async programming, and about how it powers Q-CTRL's quantum compiler!”
Guy Marino kicked off the evening with a conversation about Embassy, the next-generation framework for writing async Rust in embedded applications. It gave the room a chance to hear more about how Rust is being used in embedded systems and sparked plenty of conversation among the engineers there.
From there, Ryan Dougherty took things in a very different direction.
Ryan shared how Rust powers Q-CTRL’s quantum compiler and spoke about the AI-powered quantum infrastructure software the team is building, including how it is being used to support research in biotech.

Going from embedded applications to quantum computing in the space of one evening was a good reminder of just how varied the work happening within the Rust community has become. But as with every Rust LA meetup, the talks were only part of the evening. The questions, conversations and opportunity to meet other people working with the language are a big part of why the community continues to come together.
Sean summed up the night:
“Overall, the night was a fantastic success, filled with thoughtful questions on the ways Rust is powering some of the most cutting-edge areas of technology.”
A huge thank you to Guy Marino and Ryan Dougherty for sharing what they’re working on, to Q-CTRL, and to everyone who joined us and got involved in the conversation.
Sean and the Lawrence Harvey team will continue bringing the Rust LA community together, but first, there’s a pretty big week ahead.
Next up is RustConf 2026 in Montreal, where Sean will be joined by Ross Townsend, Shanice Gaskell, Arianna Cook and Ben Martin as Lawrence Harvey heads to the conference as its Official Recruiting Partner.
If you’re heading to RustConf too, come and say hey to the team. We’ll see you in Montreal!
